well time flys and all that oh and a confession

2010 is here! and after all that I just havent had the time or the drive to update this blog, my plan was a post a week minimum but with the new job, well time has gone!

ok now for my confession, I am here to confess, It was only tonight on my way to run scouts that I got on my bike for the first time this year. The weather and illness has been against me, and as i have said working has taken its toll.

Hopefully with a bit better weather on its way I may get out a bit more but we will see.

No photo here yet,

Sorry guys, I meant to put a photo or a route up over the last week or so, but life got busy. Unfortunatly not in a cycling way, first off I got asked to do some props and effects for a group im involved in. Secondly I got offered a new job, and like a muppet I took it, what can I say I want to to get more cycling kit and a well paid job will mean I can. So sorry guys and I'll tell you now, I dont think I will have time over the next week to put up anything else. First day at the new job tomorrow, and well its a big change going from sales assistant to a largely admin job, oh well sometime soon I'll find a job needing an amount of outdoor working and cycling.

Keep well all,

M or KM?

Here in the UK we have a rather interesting problem, we are stuck between miles and kilometres. Sure we all get taught in metric in schools now days, but all our road signs are in miles, this makes it interesting to set up a GPS or work out a bike ride. I know that I can walk 4.5mph, ask me what that is in Km and I will tell you I haven't a clue, sure I can work it out but by the time I have done this I'm half a mile away from where you asked it and well its pointless. Personally I work in miles for everything when I'm out on the bike just because most people understand it. Yards however confuse me, and I have no idea how many yards in a mile, I could google it I know, but that's not the point.

Anyway this is just a time wasting post as I cant get out on the bike, and its annoying, Right now its as sunny as can be, but warning of storms in an hour or so and winds of 40-60mph, and thats not biking weather!

If I dont get out on the bike tomorrow I'll put up a route I do a fair bit, infact its my standard training ride, I do it in pretty much all weathers and almost any time of the year. I dont think i have any photos of this route at the moment, but I will be out there again soon and with the new phone I'll take some!

Heres hoping for better weather tomorrow!

A Quick word about the weather.

Sometimes the weather is great for cycling, Personally I dont mind the sun when im cycling, or a cloudy day, what I do not like riding is the rain, and that what we seem to have today. Lots of rain at that. Hopefully it will get better for sunday and let me out on my bike for a couple of hours but we will have to see, Oh well if not i might get to test my rainlegs from wiggle.com,

Hope the weather where you are is better!

Welcome!

Welcome to the On Ya Bike in Essex! Blog. A blog written by me Derek, all about my rides in around and through Essex. As a Essex lad born and bred (well the essex london border) I relized a little while ago there seems to be very few cycle rides in my location, sure theres lots in North north essex but very few here in south essex. So I decided to show what my area has to show!

So a bit about me. I have been cycling since about the Age of 8, at the age of 14 i did my first longish distance solo ride (13 miles, it was long at that age), then at the age of 19 I did a long Cycle in London, and that was the Bike bite, at that point it stuck me that Cycling is a love of mine!.

Now to cycle you need a bike and mine is a little bit special, mainly cos its mine! Its known by me as "The Beast Of Burden", normally shortened to "The Beast". The reasoning for this is simple, if i need to go out, and go further than a mile or two then its on the Bike. If I need to carry lots, then the rack on the back has a panner that can be put on, or if we are talking lots and lots, well then the Beast has its follower, The Trailer!

Ill post a photo of the two of them at some point!

Hope you can get out on your Bike soon!
